AI Answer Snapshot · GB locale · Prepared by SearchFlex for Bibado

AI already knows Bibado is an award‑winning category leader. It just never brings that knowledge to the questions parents actually ask.

150 answers across Perplexity, ChatGPT and Gemini show presence holding at 97% on brand questions and collapsing to 7% on the category questions — “how do I get my baby to self‑feed” — that start a parent’s search.

How we measured this

Answers come from Perplexity, OpenAI and Gemini’s official APIs — Perplexity sonar, OpenAI gpt‑4.1 with web search, Gemini 3.6 Flash with Google Search grounding — all pinned to GB. No personalisation, no memory, no consumer system prompt. That makes this more reproducible than the consumer apps, but it is not identical to what a specific parent sees in the ChatGPT or Gemini app on their phone. We say that here rather than let it be assumed.

Presence collapses as the question moves from product to problem

Name Bibado and AI knows them cold. Ask about a product and it’s a coin flip. Ask the question a parent actually types — the problem, not the product — and they are effectively absent. Blended across every unbranded prompt (category and product combined), Bibado is named 29% of the time.

A tempting explanation — tested, and ruled out

The raw numbers looked dramatic: answers that searched the live web named Bibado 61% of the time; answers from training memory alone, 15%. That would read as “corroboration works, brand memory doesn’t” — except it doesn’t survive the controls, so we’re not using it.

1 · Composition

It’s which prompts, not whether it searched

The memory‑only set is 74% category prompts; the grounded set is 23%. Engines mostly answer informational questions from memory and commercial ones from search — the gap tracks the prompt mix.

2 · Within bucket

The effect shrinks and the samples collapse

Category 12% vs 3%, product 62% vs 17% — on a sample of 6. Brand and authority splits are n=2. Not usable.

3 · Same‑prompt test

Noise, not signal

Of 27 prompts where one engine searched and another didn’t, the grounded answer named Bibado more often on 4 and less often on 2.

What survives: engines choose to search on commercial queries and answer from memory on informational ones. Bibado’s presence tracks the question bucket, not whether the engine happened to search.

Reddit is the single biggest citation surface in this category

Across all 150 answers, Reddit is cited nearly twice as often as Bibado’s own site. Reddit plus Mumsnet together (90 citations) outweigh every publisher combined. In this category, AI leans on parents talking to each other — not on brands, and not even on journalists.

Marginal, not absent — 11 of 50 prompts split by engine

On 11 of 50 prompts, one engine names Bibado on the identical question that another misses. That is a far more actionable position than invisibility — small movements in the citation layer should flip several of these. Eight of the eleven, for illustration:

The cutlery, tableware and cup range is being lost outright

Across 24 answers where a named competitor appears and Bibado doesn’t, the pattern is consistent: Bibado holds the bib category reasonably well, then loses the entire cutlery / tableware / cup range — the exact attach‑and‑cross‑sell products with higher order value, and the ones whose developmental story is closest to Bibado’s own positioning. ezpz (23 mentions) and Olababy (11) own the self‑feeding tools conversation.

Best first cutlery

Olababy, Doddl, Grabease, Nuby and Munchkin are named. Not Bibado — despite Bibado’s Handi cutlery carrying the same pincer‑to‑pencil developmental rationale Doddl is winning with.

Best open cup

ezpz, Olababy and Munchkin are named in 3 of 3 answers. Bibado doesn’t appear once.

Best suction plate

ezpz and Bumkins are named in 3 of 3 answers. Bibado doesn’t appear once.

Best spoon for self‑feeding

ezpz and Olababy are named. Same gap shows on best baby tableware set and best feeding set for starting solids.

Share of voice across all 150 answers — Bibado’s total is the highest of any brand, but it’s inflated by brand‑name prompts. Strip those and the picture reverses:

They’re in the roundups that matter — and the fix already works on their own site

A UK‑indexed source audit — reading the actual pages behind the roundups, not just the generated answer — found Bibado present in every readable result, often near the top:

RoundupBibado position
bubsnest.co#4 — “Best Overall”, 9.0/10, “award‑winning British brand”
motherhoodcommunity.com#2
thewifechoice.com#5
milk-drunk.com#6
motherandbaby.com (weaning products)#6 — cited for Mother&Baby Awards 2024 Bronze

Source: UK retrieval‑surface audit — direct source reads (WebFetch), partial sample, 8 Sep 2026. Four further roundups (momjunction, littlebabygear, babycarestudio, theartofparenthood) returned unreadable pages (406/503/empty) — Bibado’s position there is TBC, not assumed.

The proof point

For “what weaning equipment do I actually need?” Bibado ranks #7 with their own blog post, “Your Weaning Checklist.” The model works — a brand‑owned page competing directly for an unbranded query. It just isn’t scaled: HiPP, Ella’s Kitchen, Emma’s Diary, Munchkin and Nuby all outrank them running the same play.

07

What’s fixable on‑site

Direct inspection of both domains — robots.txt, hreflang, canonicals and structured data — separates what’s already working from what isn’t.

Entity confusion, concretely

“Is Bibado worth it?” returns 4 of 10 results about Bilbao, Spain. The brand token is being partially resolved to a city — concrete, and fixable with the sameAs markup noted above.

One external note worth raising

MadeForMums now 307‑redirects to tollbit.madeformums.com — Tollbit is an AI‑crawler tolling layer. A major UK category publisher is starting to gate AI access. Any plan assuming citations flow freely into AI answers should account for publishers beginning to charge for exactly that.

08

What the data supports

Not claimed: anything about why in model‑internals terms, and nothing about what a specific consumer app shows a specific parent on their phone. Also not yet run: Ahrefs Brand Radar at UK locale, blocked on connector authentication at snapshot time — the three‑engine API baseline above is independently complete; Brand Radar would add scaled, ongoing monitoring on top of it.
